T oro Rosso has the race against the Time gained. The car was just finished at the last minute to start the test drives punctually on Monday (February 22nd, 2016). Carlos Sainz was allowed to complete the maiden voyage by car.

Toro Rosso engineers in time constraints

The stress in The factory in Faenza, Italy, had several reasons. Firstly, the start of the season - and thus also the test drives - was brought forward by 2 weeks in September. Actually, it shouldn't start in Australia until the beginning of April. The long unresolved engine issue caused further delays.

Last year, Toro Rosso was still on the road with a Renault drive. Only shortly before the end of the season did Ferrari agree to supply the small Red Bull sister team with power units. However, the specification of the drive only corresponds to the status of Ferrari in Abu Dhabi 2015. The Italians have since developed the unit a lot.

In the last few months, the engineers had to convert the half-finished car to the new engine partner at short notice. The attachment points are the same on all V6 engines, but the placement of the hybrid components and, above all, the cooling required major adjustment measures.

However, aerodynamic development did not stop during this time. Larger changes can mainly be seen on the airbox and the side boxes. There is also an interesting modification to the rear wing end plates. In addition, the flow is deflected by the front axle and a duct in the front that guides the air from the bottom to the top of the cockpit (S-duct). According to the regulations, the Toro Rosso is on the road with higher cockpit side walls and separate wastegate tailpipes. The front wing was still the old model at the beginning of the test.

However, the STR11 attracted most attention because of its paintwork. Except for the start numbers, the racer took to the track completely in dark blue. The well-known design with the red bull and the sponsor logos will only be painted on for the second week of testing. A festive presentation is planned between the test drives.
