D Rosberg mentioned the Schumacher comeback at Mercedes GP in an interview with the Stuttgarter Nachrichten 'great news for our sport'. For him it is 'a great challenge to compete alongside the best racing driver of all time. I am sure that Michael has not lost any of his speed.'
Mercedes cars at least as strong as Brawn-Auto
After taking over Brawn GP, Mercedes will be competing in Formula 1 with its own racing team and two German drivers in the coming season. 'I am proud to be a Silver Arrow driver,' said Rosberg. He trusts his new team to defend the world title.
'At the end of the season it was about the second best car, only Red Bull was slightly ahead of it.' That is the status 'on which we are now building, so I am convinced that the car will be at least as strong as its predecessor'. The team is the reigning world champion, 'and we will all work hard to achieve our goal of being at the front again.'
F1 fans fascinated by the duels
Rosberg is not worried that more and more automakers like BMW or Toyota are withdrawing from Formula 1. The sport 'is not affected by this - it is still sensational. Most fans not only watch Formula 1 because the manufacturers competed against each other, they are especially fascinated by the duels between the drivers'.
This year, the audience would primarily be interested in 'how Michael Schumacher compares with Rosberg in the Silver Arrow against Vettel and Hamilton and Alonso. I am convinced that we will experience a very exciting season.'
For Rosberg itself, the first test drives in the Silver Arrow would be scheduled for 'early February'. He is already 'very busy' in individual training, because: 'I want to be physically stronger than ever before.'
