L ewis Hamilton won the Grand Prix won by Spain. The world champion celebrated a relatively safe victory at the European opener in Barcelona. After a good start from pole position, the Mercedes driver controlled everything from the front. Only because of his early pit stop, he fell short behind Max Verstappen. But when Red Bull also went to change tires, the old order was restored.

The fight for second place was much harder behind. At the start, Sebastian Vettel was able to pass Valtteri Bottas in the second Mercedes. With an early pit stop on lap 17, Ferrari tried to put the Mercedes under pressure. Bottas followed directly, but initially stayed behind the Heppenheimer.

errari and Red Bull took it a little more comfortably in the first practice session. Sebastian Vettel was almost a second off the top in third place. The Heppenheimer was even on the softer supersoft. Max Verstappen's two Red Bulls (+ 1.0s) and Daniel Ricciardo (+ 1.7s) found themselves in 4th and 7th place. Verstappen set his personal best on Medium.

McLaren takes a step forward

In addition to Kimi Räikkönen in the second Ferrari, Fernando Alonso in the remodeled McLaren pushed himself between the two Red Bull drivers. The big upgrade package with the nose that takes getting used to seems to be a significant leap forward. Teammate Stoffel Vandoorne also made it into the top ten in 9th place.

As in the tests before the season, HaasF1 also made a strong impression on the Barcelona circuit. Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen finished 8th and 11th in the classification, on the other hand, it was somewhat disappointing for the two Renault drivers. Carlos Sainz and Nico Hülkenberg only finished 15th and 17th, 3 seconds behind.
