
F errari has this year Winter tests cleared most of the best times. On five of the eight test days, the red racing car from Maranello was at the top of the ranking. Kimi Raikkonen cleared two best times, teammate Sebastian Vettel three. The last of these at the end of the Barcelona practice drives on Friday (March 4th, 2016).
Vettel fastest driver with Supersoft
In the course of a qualifying simulation, the four-time Formula 1 world champion burned down Record of 1: 22.852 minutes in the asphalt. The super soft mixture rotated on the Ferrari SF16-H. In a later run on Ultrasofts, the Heppenheimer could no longer top this time. Even his personal best time from the previous week - on the purple-marked Pirellis - Vettel just missed (1: 22.810 min.). The absolute fastest run by Kimi Raikkonen in 1: 22.765 minutes (Ultrasoft) from the previous day remained the best lap of the entire test drives.
In the afternoon, Vettel and Ferrari concentrated on a racing simulation. Overall, the 42-time GP winner had the tires changed three times (soft-medium-medium-medium) and reeled off relatively constant lengths.
At Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg alternated as usual. The world champions began with the big test final. Mercedes could no longer fall back on soft tires, the four sets burned the Silver Arrows during the previous practice drives. Hamilton kicked the program on the medium alone. His fastest lap of 1: 24.133 minutes brought him fifth position.
Mercedes with problems with power transmission
Shortly before lunch, the world championship team ran into technical difficulties for the first time. Hamilton had to park his company car after 69 laps due to problems with the power transmission at the edge of the track. The W07 is not invulnerable. The competition will have noticed. The gearbox didn't have to be replaced. After two hours of repairs, Nico Rosberg resumed the program shortly after 3 p.m. He covered a total of 70 laps. But he did without fast times and finished last in 1: 26.140 minutes.
Carlos Sainz was completely different. Like Vettel, the Toro Rosso driver contested a few qualifying runs in the morning. In contrast to the front runner, however, the Spaniard brought onefast lap on the ultrasofts together. Sainz took second position, 0.282 seconds behind. Toro Rosso looks well positioned with the 2015 Ferrari V6.
Felipe Massa did his fastest lap of 1: 23.644 minutes in the afternoon. The Supersofts were mounted on the Williams. The gap on Vettel was just under eight tenths in the frame. In fourth position, Sergio Perez completed the Force India test program. The Mexican lapped the 16 corners of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on supersofts by 0.869 seconds slower than Vettel. In the afternoon, Force India was hit by the defective devil.
Haas solves braking problems
Daniel Ricciardo was the editor Bull RB12 in sixth place. While the Australian made a few short runs on soft tires in the morning, the focus shifted to endurance runs that looked good in terms of pace in the afternoon.
McLaren-Honda reeled off another problem-free day. Since the latest version of the Honda V6 is in the MP4-31, the English racing team has been making progress. On Supersofts, the 2009 world champion was classified in seventh position after 121 laps (+ 1.862 seconds). Jolyon Palmer in the Renault was one place behind. Even on his fourth day in, the Briton failed to jump over 100 laps in his Renault.
Marcus Ericsson finished ninth in the Sauber C35. Followed by Romain Grosjean in the HaasF1 VF-16. The new American team solved Thursday's brake problems. One hour before the end of the test, Esteban Gutierrez was allowed to scrub a few more laps.
After mechanical difficulties in the morning, Rio Haryanto was allowed to mix in the last four hours of the test in the Manor. In 1: 25.899 minutes the Indonesian showed a certain Formula 1 format for the first time.
