Red Bull presented the RB19 for the Formula 1 season in New York. But not all secrets have been revealed yet. Not much has changed in terms of paintwork compared to last year either.
Formula 1 is currently on an unprecedented growth path. The premier class is booming, especially in the USA. So it's no wonder that Red Bull celebrated its season opener in New York this year. At the big party in the Big Apple, not only was the new technology cooperation with US car manufacturer Ford announced, but a car was also unveiled.
What came out behind the curtain to great applause was announced as the new Red Bull RB19 for the 2023 season. At first glance, however, there was not much that was new. The lines of the fairing are very reminiscent of last year's model. At this early stage, however, it would have been very surprising if Red Bull had already unpacked their new tricks. "What was there on the stage doesn't quite correspond to what we will see in Bahrain," admitted team boss Christian Horner.
There were no big surprises with the "new" paintwork either. The Red Bull still looks like a Red Bull. "We've only changed the design cautiously in recent years. But that's not a bad thing. I've always really liked the look of the car," said Max Verstappen when looking at his company car.
Special designs for US races
But it won't be that boring. Red Bull has already announced that the livery will change several times in the coming season. For the three US races in Miami, Austin and Las Vegas, the racing team asked the fans to submit design proposals. The best ideas should then be transferred to the RB19 and used on the Grand Prix weekends.
Red Bull will probably only reveal the secret of the technology at the start of the test drives. On February 23, all teams will do the first practice rounds together in Bahrain. "We took all the lessons learned from the old car into the new one," said Horner at the launch event. "But our rivals are certainly not standing still. We expect great progress from Ferrari and Mercedes in particular - and of course you have to keep an eye on the others too."
Who will find the big trick?
Even if not much has changed in the technical regulations, the Brit is also curious to see what the competition has in store for upgrades: "We will only see all the cars in Bahrain. And only then can we see whether we missed something . But I think we're in a good position and can take the momentum into the new season."
Last year Red Bull celebrated 17 wins in 22 races. Horner expects more resistance and more excitement in 2023: "We reached an incredible level last year. Of course we want to show our best side again in 2023. But we know that the competition is strong. We can't make any mistakes there perform. We are the hunted. But everyone in the factory is fully motivated and will continue to give full throttle."
