R ed Bull already stood out as a sponsor of the Sauber team before taking over Jaguar. Since 2005 you have been the main sponsor of your own car. With David Coulthard, an experienced pilot was hired in the first year. The Cosworth V10 unit in the rear of the Red Bull racer offered sufficient power. Because of the poor aerodynamics of the Jaguar predecessor model, the debut season was still without great expectations.

Red Bull's Formula 1 entry with 34 points and a seventh place among the designers was almost a great success be booked. Coulthard had points in nine of the first 19 races alone and clearly outshone teammates Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi, who shared the second cockpit.

Team boss Christian Horner wanted to be inspired by the good start Attack 2006 properly. With star designer Adrian Newey one of the most famous developers of McLaren was poached. With Ferrari came a new engine partner. With his third place at the Prestige Grand Prix in Monaco, of all places, Coulthard ensured the young team's first podium place, but with only 16 points the further upward trend in the second season failed to materialize.

2007 became the Third engine supplier presented in three years. In addition, with Mark Webber, a new, experienced teammate has been hired for Coulthard. The Autralier made another podium visit in his first season. With fifth place in the team classification, Red Bull achieved the best position in team history to date. The big breakthrough, however, still failed to materialize.

With Vettel, Red Bull's success comes

Designer Adrian Newey had a revolutionary idea for the 2008 season. The engine cover was extended to just before the rear wing in the form of a fin. With this sensational construction Webber was able to drive into the points in six of the first eight races. In the second half of the season, however, the success waned. The power deficit of the Renault engine was particularly noticeable. In the end, the big Red Bull team was even left behind by the smaller sister team Toro Rosso.

Before the 2009 season, Red Bull signed Sebastian Vettel for the retired David Coulthard. The young German finally brought success to the team. Designer Adrian Newey achieved a great success with the RB5, which in the end was only beaten by the Brawn GP 001.Vettel was runner-up in the drivers 'championship, the team also achieved second place in the constructors' cup. The team celebrated further milestones with the first six wins.

Anyone who thought that Red Bull could hardly go any further after the success of the previous year was deceived in 2010. In a dramatic final in Abu Dhabi, Sebastian Vettel secured the driver's world title. Red Bull had already celebrated the championship in the Constructors' Cup one race earlier. Adrian Newey had clearly built the fastest car in the field. Only because of numerous crashes and defects, the World Cup remained open until the last race.

Total Red Bull dominance 2011

In the 2011 season there were no more slips. Vettel didn't give the competition a chance from the start. In 19 races, the Red Bull drivers took pole position 18 times. The bulls also dominated the team standings with 13 wins. The RB7 impressed with its speed and reliability. The first retirement of the year was only at the 14th race in Monza due to a driving error by Mark Webber.

The new top dog made no friends outside of the race track. Behind the scenes, the competition expressed suspicions that the Vettel team is not adhering to the agreed budget limits. In addition, Red Bull repeatedly got across in discussions about technology and finances. With the exit from FOTA at the end of 2011, the other racing teams were finally thrown gauntlets at their feet.

The Vettel team was not deterred by the quarrels outside the track in 2012 either. Although the FIA had to slow down the RB8 again and again because Adrian Newey's team operated too close to the limits of the regulations, at the end of the year the double title was again in the statistics. Sebastian Vettel's World Cup hat-trick hung by a thread for a long time at the grand finale in Sao Paulo. After a crash on the first lap, everything seemed lost. But the car held up to the finish line with a damaged exhaust. Sixth place was enough for the Heppenheimer to win the title.

2013 was again a clear matter when it came to the title. Like two years before, Vettel was champion long before the end of the season. With 9 wins in a row in the second half of the season, the Heppenheimer set a record. Even the 4th title in the Constructors Cup was only a matter of form - Vettel's World Championship points alone would have been enough. Mark Webber once again only played an extra role. The combination of advanced age, constant defeats against Vettel and disputes within the team ultimately led to the Australian's resignation after the season.

Mercedes pulls past thanks to new engines

2014 started for Red Bull new era. With Daniel Ricciardo, Vettel got a younger teammate at his side, who really heated up the world champion. To do this, the engineers had to master a major rule reform. TheThe chassis from Milton Keynes was worthy of the title again, but the Renault engine could not keep up with the competition. Red Bull had to watch as Mercedes drove from victory to victory.

With the disqualification of Daniel Ricciardo at the opening race in Melbourne (fuel limit exceeded) and the illegal front wings at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, the team not only damaged itself in terms of sport . The scandals also made negative headlines. The highlights of the year were the youngster Ricciardo, who was able to win 3 victories as a climber of the season and left Vettel well behind in the drivers' championship Pull out the release clause. In October 2014, the most successful Red Bull driver of all time announced his departure. A replacement for the German who had migrated to Ferrari was quickly found. Without further ado, Daniil Kvyat was promoted from Toro Rosso. In addition to Vettel, designer Adrian Newey also withdrew from day-to-day business after the 2014 season.

The effects were felt in 2015. The power weakness and the lack of reliability of the Renault engine could no longer be compensated by the aerodynamics. Red Bull couldn't celebrate a single win. Ricciardo and Kvyat only had a chance of podium places on winding roads. Behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Williams, the racing team, which is used to success, only finished third in the team classification.

Change to Honda engines in 2019

In 2016, things were at least a bit up. In the duel with Ferrari, Red Bull clearly retained the upper hand. In the end there were at least two wins. Against Mercedes, however, there was nothing to do with it. However, the team bosses had a positive outlook on the future with two points: The Renault engine showed a clear upward trend in terms of performance and reliability. And in terms of driver staff, Max Verstappen was promoted from Toro Rosso to the A-Team and hit like a bomb.

The roller coaster ride went down again in 2017. The RB13 didn't bring the team any luck. After a weak start, they recovered in the second half of the season and still managed to collect a few wins. In the team standings, however, Red Bull fell back to 3rd place behind Ferrari and Mercedes. The same result was also recorded after the 2018 season. You could only beat Mercedes and Ferrari four times.

So that the world championship lull did not last, there was a big upheaval during the winter break. The long-term engine partner Renault was replaced by Honda. In terms of driver staff, Red Bull had to let Daniel Ricciardo go to Renault. Pierre Gasly rose from Toro Rosso as Max Verstappen's new team-mate.
