IndyCar Reactions to Wheldon's death

'We always tell ourselves that motorsport is so safe these days that nobody has to give up their lives, but unfortunately that's still wishful thinking, 'Schumacher explained on his homepage.
' I found out this morning about the terrible accident in which Dan Wheldon died, and when you find out something like that, you're easy just shocked and stunned. '
Wheldon as a role model for British racers
Ex-Champion Lewis Hamilton announced on Twitter:' This is an ext rem sad day. This was a racing driver whose path I've followed my entire career. I often followed in his footsteps when we climbed the motorsport ladder in Great Britain. '
' As a Brit who not only went to the USA but also won the Indy 500 there twice he was an inspiration and someone all racing drivers looked up to with respect and admiration. It is a tragic loss at such a young age. My heart goes out to his family and friends at this extremely difficult time. '
Button, Barrichello and Webber remember times we shared
Jenson Button too The 2008 F1 World Champion was racing with Wheldon in the British Formula Ford at the end of the 1990s. 'I have so many fond memories of races together. He was a real fighter. We lost a legend of our sport and also a great guy. I can't even begin to imagine what his family is going through now. My thoughts are with them during this difficult time. '
Rubens Barrichello and Mark Webber also had experience with Wheldon on the racetrack and paid their respects to their former opponents. Wheldon was at the final of the Indycar 300 on Sunday Series involved in a mass accident. The two-time winner of the long-distance classic Indy 500 died in a hospital in Las Vegas.
