N ico Hulkenberg burned 20 laps on the damp asphalt in the afternoon. Nobody drove more. The Sauber driver drove an unusually large amount of time, especially on the extreme rain tires. The large-tread tires have to hold up for the rest of the weekend. No problem for Hülk. 'They're still okay.'

Hülkenberg calls for improvement in the rain

The Rhinelander was not entirely satisfied with his car. The good results from the last weekends seem difficult to repeat on a wet track. 'If we don't improve, then we won't. The balance has not yet worked. I had a lot of understeer. As a result, the front tires overheat. That gets worse and worse.' Hulkenberg also complained about the extreme rain tires about problems with locking front wheels. The problem only eased somewhat with the switch to intermediates. In the past, the Emmericher had made a few hussar rides in Brazil on wet and semi-humid routes. 'I wouldn't mind dry weather this year. It's fun here, too,' grinned Hülk.

Force India better in the rain than earlier

Compatriot Adrian Sutil is not yet entirely sure which conditions his Force India likes better. Actually, rain wasn't the car's strong point this year. 'The feeling today wasn't bad. It went much better than last time,' the Bavarian later reported happily. 'I do think we can make it into the top ten.'

In the first session, Sutil had done 25 laps. Only Grosjean and Gutierrez were more diligent. In the afternoon he took it easy with only 7 laps. In contrast to Hulkenberg, he did not touch the extreme rain tires. 'They're limited. We wanted to save tires. In the morning I drove a lot with the intermediate. At the end of the second session, it was completely finished at the front. That's why the time wasn't so good.'

In general, the verdict on the profiled Pirelli rubbers is not good. 'The tires are generally a bit bad. They only last a lap or two. Then the times drop by a second. The one lap you have has to pass. The old Bridgestone tires were more consistent and lasted longer. That I liked it better. That meant I was always at the front. '
