Red Bull has the best car in the field. The car also wins with Sergio Perez when team captain Max Verstappen is unlucky or has a bad day. Ferrari, on the other hand, can't get rid of its tire problem and has to be satisfied with second place in our power ranking.
Red Bull have already had six wins in a row in the table. In Singapore for a change with Sergio Perez. As in Monte Carlo, the Mexican had a great day. In this form, even Max Verstappen would have had trouble beating his teammate.
The clear victory over Ferrari also shows that the Red Bull has become an all-rounder and can win on any track. "Up until now, we were only uncompetitive in Barcelona," sports director Helmut Marko looks back.
The Red Bull RB18 allows its drivers to protect their tires even at high speeds. Charles Leclerc was only able to follow Perez for a while, then his front tires started to overheat and the gap widened.
On the intermediates this happened from lap 19, on slicks from lap 17. After the restart on the 39th lap, Perez gained 7.5 seconds on the Ferrari within 20 laps. The F1-75 is still only able to challenge Red Bull for one lap.
Two clear laps for Alpine
Alpine already felt safe in fourth place. But then, in just two races, the French gave up a 24-point lead over McLaren with two clear laps in a row. Technology played a trick on Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon three times, in Singapore with identical engine failures.
Qualifying and the first 20 laps of the race showed that the upgrades at Alpine and McLaren neutralized each other. In Suzuka, the next comparison increases.
There was also a landslide in the fight for seventh place. Aston Martin passed Haas and Alpha Tauri in one go. The twelve points marked the best team result this year. On tracks that require a lot of downforce, the Aston Martin poses a threat to its opponents. Alfa Romeo in sixth place shouldn't feel safe despite a 15-point cushion. When things go silly, it only takes one race to lose the lead.
