L things are getting serious in Austin. On Thursday, all drivers were on site for the first time on the new circuit in Texas to see the Circuit of the Americas up close. Some like Nico Rosberg or Jenson Button did their first laps on bicycles. Most of the others started the race weekend traditionally with a track walk.

Vettel and Alonso are cool

Only Kimi Räikkönen stepped out of line again. As is well known, the Finn refrains from any preparation for a race track. The iceman avoids the simulator like the devil avoids holy water. And he didn't think much of a walk around the new 5.5-kilometer course. 'Maybe I'll find a golf kart,' grinned the Abu Dhabi winner.

The focus of the media on Thursday was of course on the two World Cup aspirants. At the official FIA press conference there was the first exchange of blows between Vettel and Alonso. But the fans did not learn much that was new. Both are ready to act cool and relaxed. The motto is to wait. No big announcements were made.

Texas weather cooler than expected

Something The only problem is the weather in Texas. Gray clouds over the route. Temperatures below the 20 ° C mark. Many visitors had imagined the Wild West to be a bit hotter. The cool weather could cause problems on the tire front. Together with the dust on the track, the rubber can grain. The hard mixes are unlikely to be of any use.

Most engineers didn't think about that on Thursday. In the garages, all the teams were still busy setting up the cars. In our gallery we have collected current pictures and impressions from the track in Austin for you.
