J Now it's getting serious in Barcelona. On Wednesday (March 7th, 2018) the third last day of testing before the season opener in Australia was on the program on the Catalan Grand Prix circuit. Now, in the hot phase of preparation, nobody can afford longer downtimes. Little by little, the teams have to let their pants down.

After the engineers were mainly concerned with reliability on the first days of testing, the task now is to make the cars faster and faster. New parts arrived in the paddock almost everywhere overnight. To do this, the pilots try to improve the performance of their new company cars by making setup changes.

At Ferrari, Vettel had to go into the cockpit.

In this important phase, the test drivers are no longer in action. Now the regular staff take command. The staff could be seen again on Wednesday. The local fans were especially looking forward to Fernando Alonso's first appearance in the last week of testing.

With Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, two other Formula 1 world champions were in action right at the start of the day. Actually, Vettel shouldn't have driven at all. But because Kimi Räikkönen canceled at short notice in the morning with an upset stomach, the Heppenheimer had to go again after 171 laps the day before.

Nico Hülkenberg was also back in the game. The Rhinelander was on the agenda at Renault that afternoon. At Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo was fit again. The day before the Australian had to hand over his cockpit to Max Verstappen due to illness.
