S ergio Perez is starting the test with the experience of three and a half days new Formula 1 season. He did one of them in his new work tool - the Force India VJM08. This is anything but optimal preparation. 'We are on the wrong foot and are a few steps behind the other teams. We still have a lot of work to do. Starting the season with just one day of testing in the new car is definitely not ideal.'

Perez 'fastest time on 'Supersoft'

After all, the 25-year-old turned 130 laps in his new toy on Sunday (1.3.2015). The reliability was right. Like on the two previous one and a half days with Nico H├╝lkenberg. 'My day was promising,' says Perez, who is not yet confident about the new Force India: 'The car can be a step forward.'

The fastest of its 130 laps flushed the former Sauber pilots in sixth place in the classification. On the extra-soft Pirelli tires, he was 2.050 seconds short of the lead. In the morning, Force India concentrated on some aerodynamic tests. To do this, the mechanics brushed the car with FloViz paint on the front wing and underbody. Parts of the side pods were also sprayed. The engineers want to use this method to reproduce the course of the flow around the car.

Force India brings B-version to Silverstone

In the afternoon, Perez did a few long runs. With encouraging results. The Force India seems to do well with the Pirelli tires. 'Every time we go out we learn new things about the car. For example about the aerodynamics, the setup and the ground clearance we need to drive.'

According to Perez, Force India has a clear timetable. 'We know which direction we have to go. That makes me optimistic. It was also good that we contested the first Barcelona test with the old car. So we have good comparative values.'

For The Mexican doesn't expect much at the start of the season. 'I hope for a good start, but it will be difficult. We want to fight for points from the third or fourth race onwards.' For the GP in China, the third race of the year, Force India is planning the first major renovation. A B version is to follow for the GP Silverstone (9th race). Force India has recruited reinforcements for this. The second head of aerodynamics overflowed from Red Bull. His first name: Guru.

Perezcomments on Alonso

Perez found some warm words for Fernando Alonso in his press session. 'I wish him the best and I hope to be back soon.' The Mexican had a serious accident in Monaco in 2011 that forced him to skip a race. But he doesn't see any parallels. 'I don't think the accident is comparable. I had a delay of about 60 g. When I got back into the car in Montreal, I felt sick. That's why I had to pass.'
