N after months of rest, the transfer carousel comes on Friday (28.9. ) really in swing. Even before Mercedes officially confirmed Lewis Hamilton's signing, McLaren announced that Sergio Perez will replace the Briton. However, exact contract details were not published. The Mexican will, however, sit in the chrome arrow cockpit for 2013.

Multi-year McLaren contract for Perez

'We are very pleased to welcome Sergio on board' , explained team boss Martin Whitmarsh. 'His performance in the 2012 season convinced us that he has extremely exciting potential for the future.' Perez had achieved three podium places this year with some furious catch-ups and recommended himself for a place with a top team.

'We have been watching his progress closely for several months', said Whitmarsch. 'And now he is going to be part of the McLaren team. It is our aim over the next few years to refine and develop his skills. He has all the skills to become a challenger for the world title.'

Button and Perez as a new McLaren duo

With Jenson Button and Sergio Perez, McLaren now has a good mix of youth and experience. Both pilots are considered tire whisperers because of their well-rounded driving style. But they still have to prove whether they can replace the pure speed and talent of Lewis Hamilton together.

For Perez, the move is a dream come true. 'McLaren is one of the greatest racing teams in Formula One history. For 40 years, McLaren has been a team that any driver would love to drive for. It really is a great honor that they have chosen me to drive alongside Jenson from 2013 onwards. '

' I'm under no illusions that this is a big step - as it is for any driver - but I'm ready for it, 'continued Perez. 'I will now concentrate on doing the best possible work for Sauber by the end of the season, but I am really looking forward to working with everyone at McLaren - and of course with Jenson, whom I have long valued as a brilliant driver and great champion.' p>

Mexico sponsors at McLaren

A factor in the signing of Perez was probably the sponsorship package from his Mexican homeland. McLaren's main sponsor Vodafone is about to take off after the 2013 season. With theTelecommunications network of Carlos Slim Jr., one of the richest men in the world, would then surely find a replacement. Slim had promoted Perez's career even before he entered Formula 1.

'I'd like to thank Carlos Slim Jr., who has helped me since I was 14. I wouldn't be here without him where I am. It's been an incredible journey together over the past eight years. I'll do everything I can to deliver the results I've fought hard for at McLaren. '

Thanks McLaren to Hamilton

With the signing of Perez, an era is coming to an end at McLaren. Lewis Hamilton will leave the racing team with which he has been associated since karting at the age of ten. 'It is only appropriate that we should take this opportunity to thank him. He wrote a great chapter of his life and career with us. And he will always remain a part of an exclusive club: the McLaren World Champions Club.' p>
