A lexander Rossi is about to start his first Formula 1 race. On Wednesday (September 16, 2015) the Manor Marussia team announced that the US boy would be in the car at the Night Grand Prix in Singapore when the lights of the start lights go out. Rossi, who so far has not got beyond training, is the first US Grand Prix driver since Scott Speed (Toro Rosso) in 2007.

Rossi has been waiting for an F1 debut for a long time

'I would like to thank the Manor Marussia team for always believing in me. I've been preparing for this opportunity for a while now,' said the man from California happily. As early as 2014, Rossi was in conversation as a replacement for the late Jules Bianchi. But the team had to file for bankruptcy just under a year ago and couldn't end the season.

'This is a small team that has gone through tough times. It shows passion and strength of character. Their comeback was this year extraordinary. I feel honored to be a part of it ', says Rossi.

Rossi replaces Merhi in 5 of 7 races

In addition to his job as an F1 test driver, Rossi also competed in GP2 this year. Three race weekends before the end of the season, the 23-year-old is in second place in the junior class.

The GP2 commitment also ensures that Rossi will not compete in all of the remaining F1 races for Marussia. Rossi will start in GP2 at the GP Russia and the GP Abu Dhabi. Then Roberto Merhi can run again, who has to watch in Singapore, Japan, USA, Mexico and Brazil.
