F orce India has extended Sergio Perez's contract as expected . The former Sauber and McLaren driver will not only drive for the team for Vijay Mallya in the coming season, but also beyond. The official announcement speaks of a 'multi-year' contract.

Perez wants continuity with Force India

After everything was made clear with teammate Nico Hülkenberg a few weeks ago, it is now too the second cockpit occupied for 2015 and beyond. 'He is a real racer and he did a fantastic job for us this season,' said team principal Mallya, explaining the decision. 'The whole team is impressed by his speed and his work off the track.'

The driver is also satisfied with the confirmation at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. 'It is nice that the plans are now being announced. I felt the hunger and enthusiasm at Force India from the start. I am proud to be a part of it. We have already celebrated some successes together. It is important for me to be part of it. that I establish myself in the team and have continuity. '

Perez brings Mexican sponsors with him

In addition to the talent of the pilot, the sponsorship package may also have played a role in the contract extension. Just half an hour after the driver, Force India also announced the signing of new sponsors - all from Mexico. The logos of Claro, Telcel and Telmex are also on the car in 2015.

2015 is a very special season for Mexico. The last time Formula 1 was on the road was in Central America in 1992. Since Esteban Gutierrez was kicked out of the door at Sauber, without Perez's extension there would have been the risk that the Mexico Grand Prix would take place without local drivers.
