Michael Schumacher: & # 34; Battle for pole would be possible & # 34;

Michael Schumacher at the Brazilian GP
Subscriptions & booklets

M ichael Schumacher has a run. After good races in Suzuka and Korea, the record champion seemed to strike again in Brazil. On intermediates, he could keep up with the pace of the competition at all times. Only Lewis Hamilton was faster than the German a few minutes before the end of the third lap.

'Those were exactly our conditions', Schumi then explained the increase compared to Friday practice. 'Actually, we're even better with slicks in such conditions.' Like the rest of the competition, Schumi switched to the treadless tires for the last run of qualifying. But the times didn't improve that much for the 41-year-old.

Schumacher doesn't bring the tires up to temperature

'We made a mistake with the slicks. When I got up again the track went, the two Red Bulls came from behind. I had to make room and avoid the ideal line. The tires cooled down directly on the damp asphalt. I never got them back up to temperature. We didn't have enough pressure either the tire. This slows down the warm-up process even more. '

Schumacher believes he missed a great opportunity. 'If you just look at Nico (Hülkenberg), you can see what a big difference that can make. I don't think that your car is faster than ours under normal conditions. And from a driving point of view, too, I think that at least I can can keep up with him. I think it would have been possible to fight for pole position. '

Ross Brawn apologizes to Schumacher

The team management took up the mistake her cap. 'We screwed up. We have to apologize to Michael,' said Ross Brawn openly and honestly. Schumi tried to take it easy. 'That's just part of the learning process. We'll definitely do better next time.'
