M ercedes really won in the 2015 motorsport season. The brand with the star collected a total of 19 titles in Formula 1, DTM, the GP3 junior series and in customer racing programs. So there were enough reasons to celebrate.

The automobile giant usually ends its annual motorsport activities together with its fans with the event 'Stars & Cars'. After the most successful season in Mercedes motorsport history, those responsible came up with a new format.

New format for Stars & Cars

The Formula 1 stars Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg as well as the eight DTM drivers competed against each other in a show competition in the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The field was completed by F1 safety car driver Bernd Mayländer, two-time F1 champion Mika Häkkinen, his ex-team-mate David Coulthard, five-time DTM champion Bernd Schneider and ex-F1 driver Jean Alesi and Mick Schumacher.

For the competition, Mercedes converted the football arena into a small racing track. As we know it in this form from the Race of Champions. The steering wheel artists then fought out the trophy in four knockout rounds. Each with different cars. In the second round, Mercedes presented its 381 hp A 45, in the quarter-finals the 510 hp C 63 S, in the semifinals the AMG GT S (510 hp) and for the finale the GT racer AMG GT3.

DTM defeated Formula 1

A surprise man grabbed the win: Daniel Juncadella. The Spaniard, who has been driving for Mercedes in the DTM since 2013 and has never made it onto the podium, initially eliminated Lucas Auer and Bernd Schneider before defeating Nico Rosberg in the semifinals. In the final, Juncadella then got the upper hand with 2-0 wins over Pascal Wehrlein. The 2015 DTM champion, for his part, had the better end for himself in a close duel against Hamilton. Incidentally, Mick Schumacher, son of the Formula 1 record world champion, failed in the round of 16 against Rosberg.

In addition to the Stars & Cars competition, Mercedes sweetened the event with more show runs for the 35,612 spectators. Among others, racing legends Sir Stirling Moss and Hans Herrmann rolled through the stadium together in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. And the Mercedes F1 managers Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda thundered around the track in the Mercedes 500 SL Rallye and 450 SLC. Also did Cro, CulchaCandela, Marlon Roudette and Larry van Housen mood.
