D he Red Bull RB12 was on the knitted hot needle. The crash test was only passed 5 days before the start of the test. Even so, the new car ran like clockwork. 3rd place on the first day, 2nd place on the second. 199 laps in 2 days. Team advisor Helmut Marko was astonished: 'After the experiences of the last 2 years we are completely unfamiliar with the fact that we unwind so many kilometers and go through our entire setup program.'

Marko speaks of the 'best chassis, that Red Bull has ever built. ' Even if on the second day of the test, Sebastian Vettel was 0.715 seconds short of the day's best. On the same tires, but with a lot of unknowns. 'How much fuel did Ferrari have in it, what engine mode did you drive? We're still conservative on the road,' says Marko. Then he once again praised the RB12: 'The car was quick from the start and reacts logically to every setup change.'

Power jump for Red Bull in Montreal

Even over the Renault V6-Turbo, pardon TAG Heuer, Marko doesn't say anything more critical. 'You can see clear progress. It's going in the right direction. It's good that you have made Remi Taffin boss. He is a man of practice who has seen the problems on the racetrack and knows what needs to be worked on.' '

Renault wants to deliver the first noticeable horsepower jump at the latest by the GP Canada. Red Bull hopes that the development department can bring the first major engine upgrade forward to the start of the European season. Team boss Christian Horner confirms: 'I'm much more confident about the engine than I was 12 months ago. Renault is on the right track. We just have to be patient now. Progress with the engine takes longer than with the chassis.'
