L otus has the epidemic year 2014 behind it. After the first trial laps with the new E23, the Enstone racing team is optimistic about the future again. The delayed completion of the car, which lost the first day of testing in Jerez, did nothing to change the overall positive impression.

Small problems with cabling and software

'In the end we got on the track even earlier than we expected,' said Nick Chester, director of technology. 'The car was very reliable from the start. The cooperation with Mercedes HPP was brilliant. And the performance was already decent. All in all, it was a good test for us.'

Right at the top of the test plan The aim was to unwind as many kilometers as possible and eradicate teething problems. Apart from a few problems with the cabling and the software as well as a small design flaw, no major corrections had to be made. The engineers and drivers were also able to play a little with the setup.

Lotus with first technical updates in Barcelona

'Our goal was to make the new car much more maintenance-friendly We succeeded: We were able to massively simplify the work on the car. It's a difference like day and night, 'says Chester. Not only the technicians are satisfied, the pilots too. 'The feedback was very positive. The car reacts more predictably. And they love the new engine, with which it is easier to move the car to the limit.'

After the maiden voyage in Jerez, the new Lotus E23 be put through their paces in Barcelona. 'We will intensify the setup work there in order to understand how we can get the best out of the car. We have also planned new update parts for the next test. And then the first racing simulations with which we will be on the program prepare for the start of the season in Melbourne. '
