L ewis Hamilton likes to show up at public events. Whether at boxing matches, charity galas or cinema premieres - the Formula 1 world champion cuts a equally good figure on the red carpet as on the racetrack. At the weekend, the champion wanted to be seen in the royal box at the tennis tournament in the Wimbledon tournament. But it didn't come to that.

Hamilton misses the Wimbledon final

Shortly before, Hamilton had posted a picture of the official invitation in the royal box on Instagram. The 30-year-old wrote that he felt honored to be able to watch the men's final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as a guest in the VIP box. Only an hour later came the next picture, which shows the Mercedes driver on site at the legendary tennis facility in the London borough of Wimbledon.

But photographers in the royal box looked in vain for the superstar. As the 'Daily Telegraph' reports, Hamilton is said to have been refused entry. A spokesman for the racing driver is quoted by the newspaper as saying: 'Because of an unfortunate misunderstanding about the dress code at Wimbledon, a disappointed Lewis Hamilton unfortunately missed the men's final.'

The dress code for the royal box requires a jacket, tie and shoes. But on the photo posted shortly before the final, at least nothing of the jacket and tie can be seen. The fashion-conscious racing driver obviously did not want to get involved in a replacement outfit. Hamilton preferred to go home and missed Djokovic's third Wimbledon victory.
