M Mercedes doesn't seem to be bluffing. In the third practice session, the silver cars also followed the competition. In the dress rehearsal for qualifying, Ferrari dominated the action under the Singapore floodlights. Sebastian Vettel set a superior best time, almost half a second faster than teammate Kimi Räikkönen in 2nd place.

Red Bull currently seems to be second behind. Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo ended up in 3rd and 4th place. The gap to the red competition was limited. That promises excitement for the fight for the best starting positions.

Mercedes far behind Ferrari and Red Bull

It is also exciting whether Mercedes can turn things around again. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were well behind in the third practice session. The world champion's deficit on Vettel was already 1.1 seconds. Rosberg in position 6 was more than a second and a half behind the front. 'Unfortunately, that is our real pace at the moment,' admits Head of Technology Paddy Lowe.

The order cannot be corrected even with the stronger qualification mode. As is well known, Mercedes is always able to squeeze out a few more horsepower when it matters. But power doesn't play a major role on the Singapore track. The gap seems too big.

If Fernando Alonso had driven only a few thousandths faster in 7th place, Rosberg would even have ended up behind a McLaren. In the end, the two Toro Rosso drivers found themselves in positions 8 and 9. Marcus Ericsson in the Sauber took the last top ten place.

Williams and Force India under pressure

Not only the Mercedes works team does not seem to be in top form in Singapore. The customer teams also have problems. Williams, who finished 11th for Valtteri Bottas and 14th for Felipe Massa, has to fight just as hard for a place in Q3 as Force India. Nico Hülkenberg finished 12th, Sergio Perez was only 16th. Lotus shouldn't have anything to do with the top ten.
