S o the tide can turn quickly. After Mark Webber peeked into the tube after the wing drama on Saturday, the Australian celebrated a superior start-finish victory in the Silverstone race. Webber took the lead at the start after a brief duel with Vettel.

'That was a very special victory for me,' said Webber after the race. 'I've already won Formula Ford here. And also because the team is just around the corner here. I got off to a good start and hoped it would be my day.'

Hamilton got the best out for McLaren

Lewis Hamilton saved the weekend for McLaren with second place, 1.36 seconds behind. The Brit was always on the Australian's heels, but apart from the restart after the safety car phase, he had no real chance of attacking Webber.

'I'm very satisfied,' said Hamilton in summary. 'I wasn't surprised either, because our racing pace was always good.'

Nico Rosberg released Mercedes and after a long dry spell secured third place on the podium for the Silver Arrows. The German drove a consistent race and brought home the top three place safely. Jenson Button landed in fourth place, improving by ten places in the race. The Brit benefited from his good strategy with a late pit stop.

Williams was also an exclamation point. Rubens Barrichello got off to a good start and had no wrangling in the race. Fifth place was the reward for the veteran. At Sauber, too, we should be happy about the excellent result from Kamui Kobayashi. The Japanese was already in the top ten at the start of the race and was able to make up one place on Michael Schumacher during his pit stop. In the end, the Japanese finished sixth.

Vettel with a wild race to catch up

Sebastian Vettel made a real race to catch up. The Red Bull driver was fighting with teammates Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton at the start when the McLaren touched his right rear wheel and Vettel suffered a puncture. A safety car phase made it easier for Vettel to catch up. In the end he bit his teeth against Adrian Sutil for a long time, but overtook the Force India driver on the last lap and finished seventh.

Sutil has to be happy about eighth place as he had a quite spectacular race . On lap 25 he drovePedro de la Rosa on the back, whereupon the Sauber pilot lost parts of his rear wing. The safety car phase followed. In the duel with Schumacher, however, Sutil had to leave parts himself. The seven-time world champion finally finished ninth. Nico H├╝lkenberg completes the German quartet and thus the top ten. The Williams driver made a late stop and was then able to maintain his good position.

Disaster for Ferrari

Ferrari, on the other hand, experienced a disaster in the race. First, Felipe Massa pitted early with a puncture after touching Fernando Alonso. Then Alonso also had to take a drive-through penalty for not behaving fairly in a duel with Kubica. Alonso finished 14th, Massa followed on 15th.

Robert Kubica was also in the lead for a long time, but had to park his car on lap 19 due to a defective differential. Timo Glock had a pretty quiet race and finished 18th
