D he Formula 1 is simply not going to be rainy Come on. After the chaos in the weather in Malaysia, the first training session in China started again on a wet track. With only 15 degrees Celsius and drizzle, most of the drivers prefer to hide in the pits.

Hamilton ahead of Mercedes-Duo

It was only in the last minutes of practice that almost the entire field was on the Route. Lewis Hamilton emerged as the winner of the sapling-change-yourself game. The McLaren driver set the first fastest time on the Shanghai International Circuit with 1.37.106 minutes. Hamilton was on the road with medium tires, which turned out to be the best option under these conditions. Despite the best time, Hamilton will have in the back of his mind that he will have to start five places further down in the race because of a gear change.

Nico Rosberg was in second place, more than a second behind. Michael Schumacher landed right behind his teammate. At Merecde's GP, the mood this morning should have been exuberant anyway. The Lotus protest against the DRS system was thrown out by the FIA.

Clean in front of Red Bull

Another double was landed behind the Mercedes duo. Sergio Perez again triumphed on the wet track and finished the training in fourth place ahead of his teammate Kamui Kobayashi. Red Bull didn't let itself be divided either. Mark Webber, who led the training until shortly before the end, was sixth ahead of Sebastian Vettel.

At Red Bull, the focus was on comparing the exhaust versions. Vettel tested the version as it was used in the first test drives, Webber drove with the exhaust layout from Malaysia, which was modified again. However, the drizzle was not helpful for the comparison drive. 'We need both training sessions to get good comparisons,' said Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko. In the end, Webber had 15 laps and Vettel had 12.

Jenson Button finished eighth. Toro Rosso drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne completed the top ten. The Ferrari duo Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa narrowly missed the top ten with places eleven and twelve.

Jugend forscht

The first training session was once again under the motto: Youth research. Paul di Resta had to vacate his cockpit at Force India and hand it over to Jules Bianchi. Giedo van der sat at Caterham'sGuard for Vitaly Petrov in the car. Valterie Bottas replaced Bruno Senna at Williams.

The drivers used the changeable conditions to try out the different tire types. You saw both slicks and intermediates.
