D he third training session for the Brazilian GP gave a foretaste to qualifying in the afternoon. After one best time went to Hamilton and one to Rosberg on Friday (November 13th), the world champion has now decided the training match 2: 1.

Hamilton with a sudden spin

Hamilton lapped the course in 1: 12.070 minutes and was 0.123 seconds faster than Rosberg. The German had a brake on his flying lap and was unable to improve his time.

The final training was not entirely smooth for Hamilton either. First he stopped on the track and reported that he was having problems engaging the gears. The day before, Rosberg discussed with his engineer that a gear change did not feel normal. In addition, Hamilton suddenly turned around at turn 11 and then returned to the pits. 'I don't know what happened there, but the rear just broke out,' said the Briton.

Ferrari still has some work to do. Looking at the timesheets, it doesn't seem like you can keep up with Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel is 0.690 seconds off third place. Kimi Raikkonen has even more homework to do with 1.026 seconds behind. This also applies to Felipe Massa. While Valtteri Bottas makes the Williams team third in fifth place, the Brazilian is lost in twelfth position on his home track.

Force India driver Nico H├╝lkenberg, however, traditionally feels at home in Interlagos. He already clinched a pole for Williams in 2010 and finished sixth. Romain Grosjean follows in seventh place in the Lotus and H├╝lkenberg's team-mate Sergio Perez in eighth place.

Penalties for Ricciardo and Bottas

Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado was ninth ahead of Toro Rosso youngster Max Verstappen. The two are only separated by a hundredth of a second. Like Massa, Daniel Ricciardo also fell short of expectations with the new version of the Renault engine. The Australian missed making it into the top ten with eleventh place. Overall, it was very close in Interlagos. Fourth to 15th place only 0.9 seconds apart.

Both Ricciardo and Bottas have to approach qualifying with subdued expectations. Ricciardo will start 10 places back because he has the new engine in the rear. Bottas faces a penalty for a red flag overtaking maneuveraccept second training of three places.
