D What could really be called a trend. Ferrari also sets the tone in the second session of the day on the 5.412-kilometer circuit. The tide has turned in comparison to the first training session because Sebastian Vettel has now prevailed against his teammate Charles Leclerc. Vettel put a 1.28.846 minutes on the floor, the Monegasse was 0.035 seconds behind in its slipstream. However, it did not go so well for Vettel. At the end of the training session it caused a spectacular spin.

Cooler conditions

The conditions were much cooler in Bahrain in the evening. In floodlights, the drivers circled the track with an asphalt temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and an air temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. That meant a cooling of the surface by 19 degrees compared to the first training session and a cooling of the air by four degrees.

As close as it was between the Ferrari drivers, the greater the gap between them and Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton had to admit defeat in the discipline on a fast lap by 0.603 seconds. Valtteri Bottas was still a tenth of a second more short of the fastest time. Means: Mercedes should still have some work ahead of them. However, we have not yet seen an evaluation of the long runs that were on the program after the time hunt in preparation for the race.

Renault ahead of Red Bull

Compared to Australia, things are currently wrong World. One should also have the same impression at Red Bull, after all, Nico Hülkenberg pressed himself into fifth place in the Renault before Max Verstappen. That must act like a little slap in the face. With his time of 1.29.669 minutes, the Rhinelander is one tenth ahead of the Dutchman in the table. Among other things, Verstappen asked over the radio: 'Why are we so slow on the straight?' Pierre Gasly didn't even make it past twelfth place. Hülk's team-mate Daniel Ricciardo didn't fare much better in 15th position.

Haas F1 improved compared to the previous session and ended up with Kevin Magnussen in seventh and Romain Grosjean in ninth. Lando Norris catapulted the McLaren into the top ten, just like Carlos Sainz before, between the Haas F1 in eighth place. However, there were technical problems with misfiring towards the end, whereupon he parked the car prematurely. Daniil Kvyat completes the top ten in the Toro Rosso.

Apparently, Alfa-Sauber was completely in it. Both cars were parked in the garage after a few laps.Giovinazzi was only able to move out again a few minutes before the end. Raikkonen only got six laps. Lance Stroll also had to take a break because he damaged the underbody when driving over a notch.
