E we are already experiencing in the qualification of Bahrain the changing of the guard? A Mercedes was on pole position 14 times in a row. But the Silver Arrows have not received as much pressure as in Bahrain for a long time. In the dress rehearsal for qualifying, Sebastian Vettel was only 0.069 seconds away from Lewis Hamilton, who set the FP3 best time in 1: 34.599 minutes.

Mercedes with power boost in qualifying

Nico Rosberg on rank 3 was 3 tenths behind his compatriot's time. Kimi Räikkönen on rank 4 completed the silver-red leading quartet. However, the Tifosi shouldn't cheer too early. The conditions will change significantly for qualifying. The asphalt will cool down noticeably after sunset. In addition, Mercedes can release a few more horsepower than the competition at the crucial moment.

The Mercedes customer teams are also hoping for the qualification effect. Williams clearly established himself as the third force in the third training session. Valtteri Bottas was already 8 tenths short of the lead. To the rear, however, there is also just under a second of air. Lotus and Red Bull are fighting for the other Q3 places. In the third training session, Daniel Ricciardo landed just behind Pastor Maldonado in 8th place.

Kvyat-Dreher interrupts

For Daniil Kvyat in the second Red Bull, things didn't go so well. The Russian turned just before half-time and then buried himself in the gravel. In order to safely recover the car, the race management stopped the meeting for 4 minutes.

Nico Hülkenberg was better on the way. The German Force India pilot was unusually far ahead in position 9. In qualifying, it will hardly be possible to reach the top ten final. In a mixed table of times, Jenson Button was also relatively far ahead in 11th place. McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso stayed half a second slower and only came in 16th.
