N after the rainy training Friday an extensive test work for the first dry session on Saturday on the program for all pilots. But for Romain Grosjean and Rio Haryanto, the fun was over shortly after kick-off. When leaving the garage, the HaasF1 racer crashed into the Manor car. Both vehicles got stuck and had to be separated by the mechanics.

HaasF1 and Manor at the end of the table

At Grosjean the underbody and the front wing had to be changed, which kept the French in the garage for half an hour. Haryanto bent the front wing during the slapstick insert, but it was changed in a few minutes. In the end, the Indonesian rookie landed in last place, a good two tenths behind his team mate Pascal Wehrlein.

HaasF1 could not be entirely satisfied with the result either. Esteban Gutierrez and Grosjean came in 18th and 19th at the first representative test of strength. At the top of the timesheet, the Mercedes stars were once again particularly bright. After Nico Rosberg initially led the classification for a long time on soft tires, Lewis Hamilton succeeded in the end the supersofts of the counterattack.

Hamilton just ahead of Rosberg and Vettel

The world champion turned the fastest lap of the session in 1: 25.624 minutes, leaving his team-mate 0.176 seconds behind. It was already the third best time of the weekend for Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel was also not far from the top. With a gap of only 0.228 seconds, the training result promises an exciting battle for pole position in qualifying.

The two Toro Rosso were surprisingly far ahead. Carlos Sainz landed in 4th place, Max Verstappen came in 6th behind Kimi Räikkönen. Williams and Red Bull also made a good impression. Nico Hülkenberg, on the other hand, was only 16th. The Force India driver had problems finding a free lap. Team mate Sergio Perez showed with the tenth fastest time that there is more potential in the car.
