F or Lewis Hamilton should set the fastest time in the second 1.40.888 minutes of free practice was at least a psychological boost. After all, the McLaren driver only has theoretical chances of winning the title. The fast times in the third sector, which is actually considered Red Bull terrain, were surprising. With a gap to team mate Jenson Button of 1.244 seconds, however, the question arises as to how much fuel was on board Hamilton.

Fight between Vettel, Alonso and Webber

Among other things, Hamilton drew attention to itself with four spinners. In addition, he provided a topic of conversation for the stewards. The Brit got off the track and not only cut Bruno Senna when he returned to the track, but also crossed the line at the pit lane entrance. The stewards are still investigating.

Behind the battle raged between the favorite triumvirate Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber. While Vettel lost 0.257 seconds to Hamilton, Alonso in third gave 0.426 seconds and Webber in fourth 0.427 seconds. It couldn't be much closer between the title contenders.

Experiments with the rear wing at Ferrari

This is also reflected in the technology bag of tricks. Ferrari experimented with the rear wing. Alonso switched back to the wing from Practice 1 after his first run, Felipe Massa tested the variant with less downforce. Finally, Alonso also resorted to the version with less downforce. For Massa, however, it was over 20 minutes earlier. The Brazilian stopped because he didn't have enough fuel on board and finally finished sixth. Renault driver Robert Kubica moved up to fifth between Webber and Massa.

His team-mate Vitaly Petrov was also in good shape. He was seventh ahead of Button eighth. Vitantonio Liuzzi also seems to have recharged his batteries and beat his Force India teammate Adrian Sutil in ninth place. Nico Rosberg completes the top ten in the Mercedes GP. Behind them is a German trio, which Michael Schumacher leads in eleventh place. This is followed by Nico Hülkenberg in twelfth and Sutil in 13th.

Wild slide in Abu Dhabi

Most pilots make full use of the second free practice on Friday evening. Because the track was still very slippery in the first practice sessionand caused one or the other grain on the tires. Jaime Alguersuari caused a brief caution during practice because he had to park his Toro Rosso off the track after a spin. But he was not the only one next to the piste.

The Dreher statistics lead Schumacher and Sebastien Buemi with nine slides. Webber had six ballet performances, Hamilton collected four rides, Vettel three and Alonso only one.

In the meantime, Williams driver Rubens Barrichello's engine failure has also been cleared up. A screw fell into the engine, damaging a cylinder. Lucky in the accident that Barrichello noticed the damage immediately, stopped and thus prevented worse consequences.
