K less than a week before the first free practice in Bahrain the FIA brought some light into the darkness and published the official list of participants for the 2010 Formula 1 season. It was no longer a surprise that the US racing team USF1 is no longer on the list, unlike in earlier versions.

Too late for Stefan GP

'The USF1 team has made it clear that it will not be able to take part in the 2010 Formula 1 World Cup,' he said briefly. The only exciting question was whether the Serbian racing team Stefan GP could take the vacated place of the Americans. According to team owner Zoran Stefanovich, they have all the means for a short-term assignment.

But the FIA has now put a stop to these plans. The world association announced that at this point in time before the World Cup it was no longer possible to nominate another team as a replacement. After the failure of USF1, only three instead of four new teams (Virgin, Lotus and HRT F1) are at the start.

12 teams are at the start in 2010

The entire field for the coming season consists of only twelve teams. So a place would be free again for the coming season. According to the FIA, the procedure for the selection process for new teams for the 2011 season will be announced in the next few days.

Another interesting detail of the now published starting list are the names of the teams. The Formula 1 newcomer, originally registered as Campos Meta, is now under his new name HRT F1. Peter Sauber's racing team, on the other hand, is still listed with the addition of BMW, although the Bavarian car manufacturer has long since ended its involvement. Sauber has to keep the name in order to secure the rewards from the successes of the old team.
