N after qualifying a worn out Robert Kubica sat in the Renault pavilion. With a lot of effort, the Pole had fought for ninth place on the grid shortly before. But even though only the overwhelming competition from Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes was ahead of him, the Krakow was not entirely satisfied.

Kubica with a mistake in qualifying

'In the hairpin bend suddenly the rear broke. That must have cost me four tenths. If you deduct that from my time, I would have finished seventh. I was also in Q2.' Since Kubica only turned one fast lap in the last qualifying section, there was no way to iron out the mistake.

'Unfortunately, we couldn't quite get the timing for two runs. Refueling takes longer without a tank system. Plus we ran out of tires, 'said Kubica, explaining the tactics. But a place in the top ten is also worthy of all honor. In the last tests, the Renault did not look competitive. 'But there is still a long way to go. We have to keep working hard.'

Big gap to Petrov

That Adrian Sutil on hard tires standing right behind him, he doesn't see it as a disadvantage. 'You won't see how it develops until tomorrow. Nobody knows how long the tires will last. Maybe it is an advantage for him to drive with the soft tires in the end. But maybe the soft tires are also faster at the beginning. '

In ninth place, Kubica is eight places ahead of his team mate Vitaly Petrov. In the second qualifying round, the Russian was 1.7 seconds behind Kubica's target. 'To be honest, that surprised me a bit. But our car is not easy to drive. It can be fast, but then you have to fine-tune it. It's not that easy for a rookie.'
