D he Formula 1 season 2010 has finally started. In training for the opening race in Bahrain on Friday (March 12th), Adrian Sutil had the first fastest time of the season. With a lap time of 1: 56.583 minutes, the Force India driver was surprisingly able to relegate world championship favorite Fernando Alonso to second place in the Ferrari. Robert Kubica came third in a Renault.

Formula 1 season is slowly starting

The eagerly awaited season did not get off to a good start. Lotus driver Jarno Trulli was first on the track. Trulli's team-mate Heikki Kovalainen drove the first timed lap. After 40 minutes, however, only the two had Lotus Pilots stand behind their names for a while.

It was not until the second half that the piste got a little livelier with an outside temperature of almost 30 ° C. Michael Schumacher, of all people, made the first excursion off the track. Sebastian Vettel also missed the ideal line shortly afterwards on the still very slippery track and had to move into the run-off zone.

German F1 drivers in midfield

Except for Sutil's best time was still not very visible from the German drivers in the first test. Nico Rosberg finished eighth as the best Mercedes driver. Teammate Schumacher stayed four tenths behind in tenth place. Rookie Nico Hülkenberg (Williams) missed the top ten in twelfth place, as did Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull, who completed the first training session in 13th.

The new teams delivered a mixed picture. While Lotus was busy doing laps, the two Virgin Racing racers stayed in the pits for a long time. With Timo Glock, observers were only able to record five timed laps shortly before the end of the training. Glock was in 19th place seven seconds behind the best time. Team mate Lucas di Grassi did not have any time credited.

Name Senna returns

With the Spanish HRT team, you had to fear for a long time that the new racer would be can't get out on the track at all. 20 minutes before the end of the training session, Bruno Senna drove the first test lap for the new F1 team, which was only able to secure its Formula 1 participation a few days ago. Both Senna and teammate Karun Chandhok had to do without a lap time.
