N after USF1 took part in the 2010 Formula 1 season had to cancel, a place is open again for the coming season. The Italian racing team Durango would like to move up. As team founder Ivone Pinto explained in a press release on Wednesday (April 7th), the FIA has already taken note of the application for admission to the premier class.

For Durango, only Formula 1 counts

But why Durango of all people? The team from the northern Italian region of Veneto did not have to announce its departure from GP2 until the end of last year due to financial problems. How do you want to survive in Formula 1? 'After everything that went wrong last season, we did our best to find new partners for our racing activities,' explains Pinto.

According to Durango, the application for a starting place is the result of hard marketing work over the past few months. 'It didn't take long for us to understand that the interest revolves exclusively around Formula 1. That's why we worked in this direction.'

Financial support secured?

The financing of the Formula 1 project is already well advanced. 'For our Formula 1 entry we can count on the support of two large international groups,' said Pinto. Even so, the experienced team owner knows that there is still a long way to go before the premier class.

We have to keep our feet on the ground. At the moment, there are only serious intentions to join, 'explains Pinto.' I would like to say that after years of promoting young talent, the time has come to lead Durango as a team to the top of motorsport. '
