D the Suzuka result couldn't have been more fitting. Ironically, on the 70th birthday of team founder Peter Sauber, the Swiss racing team finished in the points for the first time this year with both cars. 'That proves that we have taken a good step forward with the car. So we are on the right track,' said team boss Monisha Kaltenborn.

Force India already in the clean visor

Places 6 and 7 scooped a total of 14 points on the team account. Since Toro Rosso had to drive home with a zero as in Korea, Sauber was able to distance the competitor for 7th place in just one race. Force India also remained uncountable. The gap to 6th place in the team ranking is only 17 points.

Kaltenborn already has the new opponent on the radar. 'We still have room for improvement. If everything works out well for us, we don't make any mistakes and the trend continues, then we definitely have the chance to make even further progress.'

At Sauber, however, they want everything don't burst into euphoria. Kaltenborn warns of another setback: 'But we still have to look backwards. That is at least as important. If only one or two races go wrong, you can quickly get back to where you don't want to be.'

Explosion at Gutierrez

In the battle for places in the financially important Constructors' Cup, Kaltenborn is hoping for more points from Esteban Gutierrez. The rookie made it into the top ten for the first time in his Formula 1 career. 'It took a lot of work to get to this point,' said the Mexican, relieved. 'It was really not an easy path. We have improved a lot in the last few races.'

Kaltenborn also praised the positive development of her protégé: 'That is a great relief. We could see that how he kept improving in the last few races after a bumpy start to the season. Something exploded inside him. I think this result is important for him. It also shows us that we worked with him properly. '

The Japan result is no guarantee for a new cockpit. Just think back to the previous year Kamui Kobayashi cannot keep the clean place even with a podium place. 'Individual results are never decisive for us when it comes to future planning,' said Kaltenborn. 'We have a few options without wanting to name names now.'

Hülkenberg still guaranteed points

As in Korea, Nico Hülkenberg proved that he is now guaranteed points. Like 7 days ago, he was fourth long ahead of Fernando Alonso Spaniards also let Kimi Raikkonen pull in the Lotus. Not a big disappointment for Kaltenborn: 'We knew that the situation was a little different than in Korea because of the tires. That's why we're satisfied with what we've got. '

Despite the good results, she doesn't see any particular improvement at Hulkenberg in the last few races.' His performance has been constant throughout the year. We just couldn't show it because the car wasn't ready yet. 'The German now fights regularly with Lotus, Ferrari and McLaren. Kaltenborn believes that you can play further ahead.' Lotus is still a good one, especially in the long run A little faster. But with the others you could see that we are not that far away. '
