F errari launched a big attack during the winter break. The Scuderia had Mercedes firmly in its sights. Group boss Sergio Marchionne asked his team to fight for the title until the end of the season. But after just 12 races, the dream of the championship is over. In the course of the first half of the season, Mercedes moved further and further away.

Mercedes with more technology updates than Ferrari

You can easily see why this is so from the outside. Mercedes screwed new parts to its car almost at every race. These were mostly big changes and not just small retouching. Front wings, baffles, brake scoops, side pods, rear wing - no part of the Silver Arrow remained untouched.

At Ferrari, there were significantly fewer updates from the Maranello factory Racetrack. A small expansion stage with new side boxes and front wings was ignited in Barcelona. But it fizzled out because the Ferrari strategists couldn't get their drivers past Red Bull despite the speed advantage. It was the only real chance of victory of the season.

No Ferrari development since Spain

Maurizio Arrivabene publicly criticized his technology department after the race in Hockenheim: “We haven't seen any gains since the Spanish GP generate more in terms of downforce ”, stated the team boss. The fact that Red Bull Ferrari has now also overtaken the rank adds to the shame. At the Scuderia the pressure is on again.

In our technology gallery we show again how exactly the two works teams from Mercedes and Ferrari modified their cars in the first races.
