D he Formula 1 is suspended. At least the drivers. On Friday (May 25th, 2018) the 20 steering wheel artists of the premier class were allowed to take a break in the Principality at 23 degrees and sunshine. They had already finished the first two training sessions on Thursday. Nevertheless, they showed up in the paddock. Finally, there are other obligations that are part of racing life. For example technical meetings, interview appointments and autograph sessions.
Renault driver in the R.S.01
The two Renault drivers even climbed into the car. But not in their ancestral Renault R.S. 18. But in the Renault R.S. 01. Nico Hülkenberg and Carlos Sainz covered a few show kilometers in the 550 hp one-make cup racing car. With the four-time world champion and Renault brand ambassador Alain Prost in tow.
Otherwise, fans had free access to the track for long stretches of the day after the Formula 2 and Porsche Supercup races. They took the opportunity to see the famous corners such as Sainte Devote, Loews Hairpin, Harbor Chicane, Swimming Pool Chicane and Rascasse up close.
Meanwhile, the mechanics were struggling in the garages. For them, the most glamorous Grand Prix of the year, like all the others, is no picnic. While the Ferrari mechanics were practicing pit stops in the afternoon, Williams, Sauber and Renault brought their racing cars to the FIA's garage to be measured. We discovered some new parts. Like some competing products, the Sauber C37 now carries a sword that swings out of the chassis above the bargeboards. Renault donated the R.S. 18 new bargeboards andextends the slot in the front area of the underbody.
In our photo show we show you the impressions from Friday from Monaco.
