E it's starting again! The first test drives of the year have officially started. As usual, the new Formula 1 generation started the new season in Jerez. After Mercedes and Williams had ceremoniously unveiled their new cars in the pit lane in the morning, the driving began punctually at 9 a.m.

Cool conditions for the start of the winter tests

With only 12 test days in total until the season opener in Melbourne, the engineers are not allowed to waste a minute. However, the external conditions in Andalusia at the beginning of the day were not exactly ideal. The thermometer showed just 3.4 ° C when the pit light switched to green. The informative value, especially in terms of tire wear, is therefore low.

Initially, however, the teams were not concerned with exhausting the performance of the new cars. At the beginning, nothing more than system checks and installation rounds could be observed. The pace is increased slowly. In the absence of spare parts at this early point in the season, no risk is taken.

The experts were of course particularly excited to see how the cars would perform on the track have changed compared to the first studio photos and computer graphics and which new technology tricks are still to be discovered. Red Bull caused a surprise. The engineers have wrapped the RB11 in a zebra look. The camouflage should make it more difficult for spies to discover the details.

You can get your own picture in our gallery. We have the first photos of the 2015 Formula 1 generation on the track. As usual, the photo show will be updated with the latest material throughout the day.
