D his Formula 1 surprises us in this one Season again and again. Through controversial team decisions. Through tough duels. By dubious decisions by the race stewards like in Montreal. It wasn't a boring first third of the season. But from the Austrian GP this season really picked up speed. Because Ferrari and Red Bull finally got stronger. Since then, each race has had its own new story.

This time Ferrari was the main actor. Scuderia had the right tactics for the start to be in the lead with both cars after the first lap. The Ferrari SF90 even handled the tires carefully in Sochi, although both drivers drove each other on. But what Ferrari didn't have were two stable cars. Sebastian Vettel had to park his car after 28 laps with a technical defect and set the stone of ruin rolling for Ferrari.

Crashes by Grosjean and Russell

From that moment everything went against Ferrari . A virtual safety car gave Mercedes the only pit stop. Lewis Hamilton raced to his ninth win of the season. Team mate Valtteri Bottas secured the eighth double victory this year for the Silver Arrows, which are well on their way to becoming the drivers' world champion again and taking the team title.

In contrast to the previous year, Max Verstappen did not take a hussar ride on the track. More than fourth place was not possible for the Dutchman. Team mate Alexander Albon performed a couple of handsome overtaking maneuvers and saw the checkered flag behind the Dutchman.

Romain Grosjean was undoing the starting lap. The French rattled together with Antonio Giovinazzi, who had no alternative because Daniel Ricciardo was driving next to him on the right. Grosjean landed in the Tecpro barrier while the other two pilots carried on. Ricciardo parked his Renault after 24 laps. The damage to the underbody was too great. Giovinazzi crossed the finish line and was 15th and last.

There was a second driver who was part of the Tecpro gang. George Russell crashed out of turn at turn eight with his front wheels stationary. Williams apologized to his pilot. After changing the tires, there was a technical problem that caused the wheels to lock.
