D as Qualifying in Montreal is actually always a guarantee for action and spectacle. In the battle for the best starting positions, the pilots have to push their limits every year. And that means on the fast street circuit that there is an increased risk of a crash.
The walls on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve are always close to the ideal line. Usually in qualifying you always see a few drivers pushing their limits a little too much. But apart from a small gang kiss from Marcus Ericsson, in which the Sauber driver bent the front wheel suspension, the qualifying was astonishingly well-behaved -A_-article__inline-container '>

Vettel saved 93 thousandths across the line.
That is not to say that the fight for pole position did not get everything out of the cars. Hardly any of the top drivers made it through the fast laps without making a mistake. Whether Räikkönen, Hamilton or Bottas - a driver was constantly on the road next to the line or left a bike.
Even Sebastian Vettel complained after his fastest lap about how many corners he had not made optimally. In the end, it didn't matter. With a lead of 93 thousandths over Valtteri Bottas, the German took pole position. For once, Lewis Hamilton had to be happy with fourth place on the grid.
Smoky Ferrari engine
The fastest qualifying was for Haas driver Romain Grosjean. The Ferrari engine in the rear of the US racer said goodbye with a huge cloud of smoke. And all of this in the pit lane.
