F1 Photos France 2022: First Pictures Thursday

French GP 2022

Formula 1 is stopping off in Le Castellet this weekend. We took a look around the track on Thursday and are showing the first pictures in our gallery.

The heat has the whole of Europe firmly under control. The south of France is no exception. The mercury shot over the 30°C mark early in the morning on the Paul Ricard route on Thursday. The sun burned mercilessly on the dark asphalt. Clouds that could provide shade for a short time were not in sight.

In the garages, the teams tried to ensure reasonably tolerable working conditions with fans and air conditioning units. Despite this, the mechanics worked up quite a sweat assembling the cars. The pit stop practice sessions have been moved to the evening, which should only make the practice a little less strenuous.

Mercedes shows nose upgrade

Technology fans will get their money's worth this weekend. Several teams have announced upgrades to their cars. A small change to the Mercedes caught our eye on Thursday. The Silver Arrow was given larger nostrils, through which fresh air is fed into the cockpit to cool the driver.

When designing the openings, however, the engineers took an unusual approach. The two recesses are narrow and elongated. The reaction from fans on social media was unequivocal. The look reminds many of the large kidneys of the newer BMW models.

The pilots were already in the paddock on Thursday. Due to the heat, the stars all took it easy during the obligatory circuit tour. Esteban Ocon relaxedly did his first laps on the bike. The Alpine pilot took the professional cyclist Évita Muzic with him. Alfa Romeo even provided a whole team for the small Tour de France.
