VW Beetle Final Edition: Special edition at the end of production

VW Beetle Final Edition
Subscriptions & booklets

A n July 10, 2019, a perfectly normal Tuesday, an era ends in Puebla for the second time. After the last Beetle was produced there in 2003, the final Beetle is now also rolling off the assembly line. Two generations of the new Beetle edition with a water-cooled inline four-cylinder and front-wheel drive instead of an air-cooled rear-engine boxer and rear-wheel drive were produced in the VW plant in Mexico. Towards the end of the model cycle, however, hardly anyone wanted the retro-compact. There will therefore not be a successor in this configuration. Allegedly, VW is considering a new, purely electrically powered Beetle, which could then belong to the ID. Family.

The new special models are intended to be a reminder of the Ultima Edicion of the Beetle from 2003.

At the end of the Beetle era, VW launched the special versions Final Edition SE and Final Edition SEL, which were only offered on the US market as a coupé and convertible. The special models were inspired by the last Beetle, which was retired in 2003 with the Última Edición. Accordingly, the last Beetles were also offered in the colors Safari Uni and Stonewashed Blue. It was also available in white, black and gray.

Upgraded equipment and just one motorization

The special equipment of the edition models included, among other things, chrome applications on the body, heated windscreen washer nozzles, Sunroof (Coupé only), bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, fog lights and 17 (SE) and 18 (SEL) inch alloy wheels. In addition, of course, there were Final Edition badges on the flanks.

The interior was designed with a leather steering wheel, KeylessGo system, stainless steel pedals, automatic air conditioning, piano lacquer applications, quilted artificial leather seat covers, a large oneInfotainment package, three-color interior LED lighting and a special glove compartment lid. The Final Edition models were motorized exclusively with the 174 PS two-liter turbo gasoline engine in combination with a six-speed automatic.

In the USA, the coupé version started at $ 23,045, the convertible was available from $ 27,295 to have. From now on, Beetle fans will have to look for the right car on the used car market.
