Suzuki Swace: hybrid station wagon inherits more power

The Suzuki Swace is almost identical to the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports. Now he inherits the improved hybrid drive from the Toyota.

Suzuki is also launching the facelifted Suzuki Swace on the German market. In addition to small optical adjustments, the hybrid drive in particular changes.

Hybrid drive is getting stronger

Since the Swace is basically a rebadged Toyota Corolla station wagon, its drive technology corresponds to that of its Japanese brother. The update for the hybrid drive recently completed by Toyota is also moving to the Swace for the 2023 model year. In numbers, this means that the powertrain, consisting of a 1.8-liter petrol engine and an electric motor, has increased in system performance from 122 to 140 hp. The power increase of 18 hp and 22 Nm comes entirely from the electric motor. The division of labor now provides for 72 kW (98 hp) for the combustion engine and 70 kW for the electric motor. With the increase in performance, the sprint time should be reduced by around 1.7 to 9.4 seconds.

Modifications to the LED daytime running lights, the LED rear lights and the rear bumper ensure a more modern look. The interior is upgraded with new seat upholstery and a completely new digital instrument cluster. There is also an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen with HD resolution. Smartphones dock to the system via Apple Carplay or Android Auto. The new safety features include the revised Pre-Collision System (PCS), an emergency stop assistant and an exit assistant that warns if a cyclist or another vehicle approaches the vehicle door from behind.

The refreshed Swace is only offered in the Comfort+ equipment variant. The prices increase by 3,100 euros to 34,790 euros. It will roll out to dealers in Swace from March 2023.

Conclusion

For model year 2023, the Suzuki Swape takes over the more powerful hybrid drive from the sister model Toyota Corolla Touring Sports. The other facelift measures from the Toyota migrate to the identical Suzuki. The price increases by over 3,000 euros.
