S koda connoisseurs notice it immediately: the rear Our test car is only decorated with a single tailpipe, although it is said to be the two-liter TDI. How can that be? A look at the papers creates certainty: It is actually the big diesel, but in this case with 110 instead of 140 hp - a variant that is currently only available in the Family special model. This means that the two-liter diesel is in direct competition with the 1.6-liter TDI, which is also available and develops almost the same output with 105 hp.

The small version of the large diesel is not a sham. Because the customer not only gets around 400 cubic centimeters more displacement and five horsepower more power for 649 euros extra, but also 30 Newton meters more torque and a six-speed gearbox on top of that. Sounds like a good buy.

Skoda Octavia Combi can be driven lazily

Feels good too: The two-liter unit sets the Skoda Octavia Combi in motion without starting weakness and quickly gets the 1.4-tonne truck going. At low engine speeds, he underlines his work with a somewhat grumpy undertone, but holds back in most other driving situations with grumpy signs of life.

In the disciplines of acceleration and pulling power, it is just ahead of the 1.6 TDI. In any case, the 110 hp variant rarely gives the feeling of being underpowered. The best torque value is on a broad plateau between 1,750 and 2,750 revolutions, so that the large TDI can be driven rather lazily - at least two of the six gears always fit. Shifting gears in the Skoda Octavia Combi is definitely fun, the gear changes are easy and precise, and with a test consumption of 6.6 liters, the two-liter doesn't have to hide.

Special model with automatic air conditioning, heated seats and light metal rims

The well-known very good space for four adults and their belongings is also a pleasure, even trips for five in the Octavia are quite reasonable. The rear compartment of the Skoda Octavia Combi swallows 580 liters when loaded up to the edge of the window, up to the roof and with the rear seat folded down up to 1,620 liters. The recommendable variable floor with storage compartment underneath (165 euros surcharge) ensures a level loading edge, and the family in the trunk ensures order in the trunkStandard bag including luggage nets.

The chassis of the Skoda Octavia Combi also does its job well. It approaches fast corners with good-natured understeering, the ESP only intervenes when the load or direction changes.

And what else is special about the special model? It comes from the factory with automatic air conditioning, heated seats and light alloy wheels - an offer that is around 700 euros cheaper than a similarly equipped Ambition model.
