50 million Toyota Corolla sold is an impressive anniversary - the special models launched in Japan are less.
Between 1966 and 2021, Toyota sold more than 50 million Corollas worldwide. This makes the compact Japanese the best-selling car in the world. Toyota is now celebrating the 50 million mark in Japan with the 50 million edition. However, it is much less spectacular than the anniversary itself.
Special rims and special paint
The 50 million edition is offered in all three body styles - sedan, hatchback and station wagon. Toyota equips the station wagon and sedan with special 17-inch alloy wheels and wide tires in size 215/45 R17. For the hatchback model, 16-inch wheels with 205/55 tires should suffice. All wheels are uniformly painted matt black.
On the other hand, add-on body parts such as exterior mirror housings and apron attachments at the front and rear as well as the respective rear spoiler are painted glossy black on all models. As a jubilee model, the Corollas are identified by appropriate plaques on the front fenders.
The exclusive colors Army Rock Metallic, Slate Gray Metallic, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Precious Metal, Attitude Black Mica and Black Mica can be selected for the special models, some of which can be combined with a glossy black painted roof section.
For the anniversary, Toyota is upgrading the interior with artificial leather seat covers and contrasting stitching, whereby the customer can choose between the thread colors red, orange or gold. In addition, 50 Million Edition plaques in the interior refer to the anniversary.
Only as a hybrid
The only drive available in all three body variants is the well-known hybrid, which draws 122 hp from its 1.8-liter petrol engine in combination with an electric motor and is coupled to a CVT transmission. The sedan and station wagon can also be ordered as an E-Four, in which case the hybrid distributes its power to all four wheels. The prices for the special models range from the equivalent of around 21,800 to 22,300 euros.,
Conclusion
Toyota is celebrating the sales anniversary of the Corolla in Japan with a series of special models. But they are far less solemn than the anniversary itself.
