Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake (2019)

N ach A-Class with hatchback and CLA with four doors and trunk lid, AMG is now also presenting the CLA with a large tailgate and the code number 45. Or, to use the official model name in full bloom: the new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4-Matic + Shooting Brake will soon be available at dealers. Its advantage compared to the model siblings: It loads up to 505 liters of luggage in addition to the occupants. Or even 1,370 if the rear seat backrest is folded down.

Two power levels: 387 and 421 hp

Of course, the cars look alike under the round sheet metal. Accordingly, the well-known two-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine is also available in the Shooting Brake ( here you can read all the details about this engine ) in two power levels for use. The normal AMG CLA 45 develops 387 hp, the S version has 421 hp. The maximum torques are 500 or 480 Nm. The performance: zero to one hundred in 4.1 or 4.0 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 250 or 270 km /h. However, the normal 45 can also be brought to 270 km /h with the driver's package.

Other members of the drive train are the dual-clutch transmission with eight speed levels and the intelligent all-wheel drive. It can distribute the drive force between the rear wheels depending on the driving situation, and portion it differently if necessary. The basis for this is the new rear axle drive, which for the first time has two multi-plate clutches that create the flow of power for each rear wheel individually by opening or closing at lightning speed. This also makes the drift mode known from the sibling models possible, which is available as standard in the S model and as part of the Dynamic Plus package in the normal AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake.

Visually, the Shooting Brake quickly reveals itself as a member of the 45 AMG Club. Unmistakable insignia are the front grille with vertical slats, the wider front fenders with flared wheel arches that create space for the wider front axle, and the wide air inlet nostrils on the edges of the front apron, to which small air control elements are attached. At the rear there is a spoiler lip, a diffuser with vertical fins (two on the 45, four on the 45 S) and two round double tailpipes, with those of the S model having a slightly larger diameter (90 instead of 82 millimeters).

The AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake features a leather sports steering wheel with a flattened bottom and galvanized shift paddles, sports seats with synthetic leather and microfiber covers and a red color scheme. Double stitching, seat belts and decorative elements on the dashboard and around the air vents set red accents. In the S model, yellow accents run through the interior. The performance steering wheel with steering wheel buttons that can be used to directly control the drive programs, yellow decorative stitching and 12 o'clock marking is installed as standard. The MBUX infotainment system with two large displays arranged next to each other is AMG-specific. For example, the digital instruments allow the three views 'Classic', 'Sport' and 'Supersport'.

Mercedes-AMG has so far not given an exact date for the market launch of the CLA 45 Shooting Brake or prices. In this respect, it should rank slightly above its predecessor, which was available from 57,417 euros. The S model is very likely to be located above the 60,000 euro limit.
