The VW Golf eHybrid Style, which costs EUR 43,755, is ready for a consumption check.
Yes, the eighth Golf generation has been able to pack up so far - that is because of the botched software. But now the infotainment (1,950 euros) reacts much more quickly to touch commands thanks to more powerful hardware. You no longer accidentally adjust the volume or temperature when you rest your finger on the sliders, because they lock themselves automatically, but still leave you in the dark when it's dark. So it's good that online speech recognition understands you more accurately. The driver surfs through the on-board computer menu with real steering wheel buttons instead of despairing of touch-sensitive surfaces. ,
Everyday stuff disappears in the VW Golf eHybrid in numerous storage compartments as well as in seat pockets or door pockets lined with felt. The only thing that really doesn't fit into the picture is the wavy trunk mat. Otherwise, the Gulf smoothes all waves. The €1,045 adaptive chassis irons even desolate bits of asphalt smooth. Only when the touch controller moves in the "Sport" direction do the dampers tighten. The Golf then takes corners calmly, steers directly, always communicates what is driving the front axle and builds up the most traction. Only the feel of the brake pedal with its undefined pressure point disturbs the harmony of driving dynamics. It is hardly possible to brake on the spot. And what about the fuel, electricity and maintenance costs?
Our test consumption
VW specifies a WLTP consumption of 0.9 liters Super and 13.8 kWh per 100 kilometers for the Golf eHybrid Style . He moves away from this value in everyday life. We have determined an average consumption of 1.7 liters and 13.2 kWh, which causes costs of 8.07 euros per 100 kilometers. The VW consumed 5.4 liters on the eco lap, while consuming 6.9 liters on the commuter route. If the VW was moved in a sporty manner, consumption rose to 9.0 liters. The average fuel consumption hybrid is 7.0 liters. On the purely electric lap, the power consumption was 17.5 kWh. The fuel costs are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal tank up more (October 5th, 2022 / Super: 1.85 euros/liter ). The electricity costs are calculated using the average household electricity price according to the BDEW Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft e.V. (Average electricity price for a household with an annual consumption of 3,500 kWh: 0.3730 euros/kWh . Basic price included proportionately, tariff products and basic supply tariffs incl New customer tariffs included, not volume-weighted). The electricity price at a public charging station is usually higher.
Monthly maintenance costs
If you drive as resource-efficiently as we do on our eco tour, you reduce the costs for 100 kilometers to 9.99 euros. The rather violent gait results in a total of 16.65 euros. The costs in hybrid operation amount to 12.95 euros. Electricity costs of 6.53 euros are incurred on the purely electric route. Vehicle tax for the VW is 0 euros, liability insurance is 335 euros. Partial and fully comprehensive insurance cost an additional 113 and 550 euros respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of 225 euros are paid by those who drive the VW 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage is double, the sum increases to 463 euros. We leave out the loss in value in this calculation.
How to test
The auto motor und sport test consumption for plug-in hybrids is made up of three differently weighted consumption drives driven in hybrid mode. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers (starting with an empty battery). A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap (start with an empty battery) counts for 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the Eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. An extra is the pure E round. This shows the maximum range in kilometers with a fully charged battery before the combustion engine starts. The consumption is calculated from the measured energy consumption including charging losses. The charging time for a full battery charge and the amount of energy in the battery, including charging losses, are also measured. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "more tanken" portal on the day the article was created.
The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and comprehensive insurance with Allianz, including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). At Allianz, SF12 offers a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance. ,
Conclusion
In the auto motor und sport test consumption, the 43,755 euro VW Golf eHybrid Style with 204 hp system performance ended up with an average value of 1.7 liters Super and 13.2 kWh per 100 kilometers. The combined fuel and electricity costs over this distance are 8.07 euros. The monthly maintenance costs are 225 euros (15,000 km annual mileage) or 463 euros (30,000 km annual mileage).
