BMW M3 Touring sets Nordschleife record for station wagons

BMW announced it and actually did it: The new M3 Touring is faster on the Nordschleife than all other production station wagons. A new video now shows the complete Nordschleife drive of the M3 Touring with all driving data.

It took test and development driver Jörg Weidinger 7:35,060 minutes with the new BMW M3 Touring to circle the Nordschleife - that's a new record for series station wagons on the most famous and demanding race track in the world. Its predecessor is the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate, which took 7:45 minutes. Now a new video shows Weidinger's complete record drive - with the driving data displayed. Shortly before the finish, the station wagon is 288 km/h fast.

A lot of performance for a lot of sport

The official launch of BMW's first 3 Series Touring from M will take place on June 22, 2022 (click here for the new launch article) at the Goodwood Festival of Speed - it even accepts it there participate in the short-distance race, tongue-in-cheek "Hill Climb", which goes up a small hill. Until then, most of the details of the new sports suit are under lock and key. Of course, it's very likely that the M3 Touring will get the same engine as the M3 Sedan and M4. So probably a double-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six drives the station wagon. In the Competition version, the unit delivers 510 hp and generates 650 Newton meters of torque. The sedan heats up from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds – the station wagon will not be significantly slower.

Car for local customers

Many European drivers, and there mostly the German ones, like station wagons - in this country half of all 3 Series go to the customer as a touring. Americans have to do without this body variant, which is currently exotic for them anyway: BMW managers emphasize that homologation for the North American market would be too expensive.

Since there are still no pictures of the BMW M3 Touring in which the vehicle is not camouflaged, we also show photos of the M3 Competition and the M4 Competition in our picture gallery.

Conclusion

The car is still camouflaged in the video - but of course it is clearly recognizable as a station wagon. That means: With the new M3 Touring, BMW has launched a genuine Nordschleife-capable sports car that offers the space of a family car suitable for everyday use.
