E r is and remains an ambitious type, the Audi A3 2.0 TDI, whose ingenious ancestry can be seen on every corner as a noble Golf from Ingolstadt and feels with every fingertip. Anyone who wants to share their platform with around 40 group siblings at some point has to position themselves very clearly in the direction of top processing.

Trend hunters may wave off when they are bored, but connoisseurs do not want to quit again. After all, the Audi A3 2.0 TDI has always stood for particularly high-quality workmanship.

This is also the case with the current generation of the Audi A3. In order to emancipate themselves from the Golf, they can also use a lane change assistant and present their menus using a rotary push button and an extendable screen without a touch function. Also Audi-specific: the touch surface on the large, precisely clicking menu dial. This is upper class. Point. Like the processing of details, which even extreme critics have nothing to complain about. On the other hand, the coolant temperature and tank content are displayed on the LED always holds the 1.4-ton Audi A3 2.0 TDI a tad too long. In our test car with dual clutch transmission, however, this phenomenon does not occur as badly as with switch variants. Sports suspension (standard with Ambition) and electromechanical steering connect the driver directly to the road, and the engine-transmission combination is also convincing all round. The S-tronic always seems to have an inkling of what the driver wants and is good for the two-liter TDI.

You can hear and feel the 150 PS diesel of the Audi A3 2.0 TDI, it unfolds its power but relaxed. Speeds below 2,000 rpm do not bother him any more than those above 4,000. In eco mode, the gearbox sends it quickly into large gears, then cruising is particularly pleasant. When driving at constant speed, the S-tronic disengages automatically in the test and lets the Audi A3 2.0 TDI roll. With economical driving it comes to 5.1 L /100 km, in the test average it is 6.4 L /100 km
