Ram 1500 special models at the State Fair of Texas

Sometimes classy with an understated attitude, sometimes sporty and expressive: the new special models show different sides of the Ram 1500 pickup.

What does a car manufacturer that books a booth at the "State Fair of Texas" show? Of course - new pickups! The fair, which is still taking place in the metropolis of Dallas until October 17th and whose organizer is touting it as the "most Texan place on earth", uses Ram, the pickup brand of the Stellantis group, to advertise three new special models of its flatbed truck model 1500. Each of them turns out very different characters. Also because they compete with different motor skills.

Take the tongue-twisting Ignition Edition based on the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX. It can afford its expressive appearance with an exclusive orange finish including contrasting decorative graphics and black 18-inch rims, after all the TRX is the most powerful Ram pickup of all time. The 6.2-liter V8 with supercharging makes 712 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 881 Newton meters. Better back up when that Ram shows up in the rearview mirror!

With a particularly practical platform

But its drive potential is only one side of the Ram 1500 TRX in the Ignition Edition. Inside, the pickup picks up the exterior color with accent stitching, TRX logos on the seats, and corresponding graphics on the driver's display. There are also copper-colored carbon fiber accents, an orange badge on the center console, a head-up display and a panoramic sunroof. The loading compartment has a particularly robust lining, extra lashing eyes and a step at the rear. An additional LED brake light on the driver's cab and the pedestrian emergency braking function improve safety. The Ignition Edition is limited to 875 copies; one of them costs 91,585 dollars (currently the equivalent of a good 78,000 euros).

The new "Longhorn SouthFork" version of the Ram 1500 with off-road tires fitted with Falken Wildpeak tires shows its practical side, replacing the "Limited Longhorn 10th Anniversary" special model. In addition to the multifunction loading flap, the platform has a loading management system, LED lighting, an additional step and a particularly hard-wearing loading bed lining. The interior dips Ram in the color "Mountain Brown"; here there are sport seats, which wear suede just like the door panels, as well as a set of metal pedals. Cost point: 61,620 dollars (almost 52,600 euros).

Buying a pickup as a charity campaign

If you want to do good with your pickup, you should probably go for the Ram 1500 in the (RAM)RED Edition. With the proceeds from this special model, Ram, along with its Stellantis sister brands Jeep and Fiat, are meeting a self-imposed commitment to donate at least $4 million to the global organization (Red) between 2021 and 2023. This relief fund, co-founded by U2 singer Bono, is committed to overcoming international health crises - such as the current corona pandemic.

From the outside, the edition model can be recognized by the red Ram emblems on the radiator grille and on the front doors. On the inside, the logo in the same color and artistic embroidery can be found on the central storage compartment in the center console. The manufacturer combines the equipment exclusively with the large crew cab. However, different engine variants are possible: in addition to V8 petrol engines, the diesel option is also available as a drive source. The base price is 63,250 dollars (almost 54,000 euros). Like the Ram 1500 TRX in the Ignition Edition and the Ram 1500 in the "Longhorn SouthFork" variant, the (RAM)RED Edition will also be available from dealers from the fourth quarter of 2021.

Conclusion

Ram is presenting three new special models of its 1500 pickup, each with different qualities. However, they have one thing in common: For pickup truck standards, they carry fairly thick price tags.
