Nissan Townstar: Another Kangoo Adaptation

The Renault Kangoo gets another sister model. After the Citan at Mercedes , the French now becomes the Townstar at Nissan. It can be ordered now.

The Nissan model range for light commercial vehicles has long been based on the Renault portfolio. With the launch of the new Kangoo at Renault , Nissan is also introducing a successor to the NV250. It's based on the French pickup truck, but now comes under the Townstar name. The joins the Japanese star nomenclature, which previously included the Interstar and Primastar models.

Only the face is new

Unsurprisingly, the Nissan Townstar is reminiscent of the Kangoo. The Japanese makes the Townstar a facelift. The standard LED headlights have a new radiator grille with a honeycomb structure in the middle. He tries to take up the typical V-Motion front design. The adjustment is rounded off by a new apron with integrated daytime running lights. The Townstar is also the first European model to bear the new Nissan brand logo, which will also adorn the Ariya in the future. The Townstar adopts the rear view almost unchanged from the Kangoo.

As a car and van

The new Nissan Townstar is available as a sheet metal commercial vehicle or as a glazed station wagon for passenger transport with up to seven seats. As a transporter, the Townstar offers up to 3.9 cubic meters of cargo space, which is delimited by an adjustable partition. Two Euro pallets should fit in, the payload allows up to 800 kilograms of cargo. The trailer load is given as up to 1.5 tons. Two side sliding doors make it easier to unload the van. Depending on the model variant, there is a tailgate that opens upwards or asymmetrically divided gullwing doors that open 180 degrees. Intelligent storage space solutions and a special compartment for office utensils create order on board.

The car variant offers up to 775 liters of storage space, comfortable seats and high-quality door panels. The cockpit design with the attached touchscreen and the raised control island with gear knob takes Nissan 1:1 from the Kangoo. The station wagon also comes with two sliding doors, but always with a large tailgate. It also has roof rails.

Electric or petrol

There is also freedom of choice when it comes to the drive concept. In addition to versions with a 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine with 130 hp, 240 Nm of torque and a manual six-speed gearbox, the Townstar will also be available as a purely electric version from mid-2022, replacing the e-NV200. The electric motor has an output of 90 kW and offers 245 Nm of torque. In combination with a 45 kWh battery, ranges of up to 300 kilometers (WLTP) are possible. With a charging capacity of 80 kW, the electric vehicle – the Townstar relies on CCS charging technology – can be charged to 80 percent of the battery capacity in 42 minutes at DC fast charging stations. The Townstar has an on-board charger with either 11 or 22 kW for charging with alternating current.

As for all new commercial vehicles, the Japanese car manufacturer also grants a Europe-wide five-year guarantee for up to 160,000 kilometers on the Townstar, which also applies to the passenger car version. For the electric variant, there is also an eight-year warranty for the battery for up to 160,000 kilometers. The Nissan Townstar is built together with the Renault Kangoo in the French plant in Maubeuge near the Belgian border. The prices for the Townstar as a van start from 19,250 euros (net). The car variant is available from prices of 25,950 euros (gross).,
