Fuso Canter: New light truck launched in Europe

The Daimler subsidiary Fuso is launching the new generation of the Canter light truck. The new model can be ordered throughout Europe from August.

From August 2021, Daimler will be controlling a new generation of the Canter light truck for distribution traffic on the European market via its Japanese commercial vehicle subsidiary Fuso. The new Fuso Canter scores above all with its redesigned cabin, more comfort and improved safety equipment.

Like its predecessor, the new Fuso Canter is standard in five weight classes (from 3.5 to 8.55 tons), with six wheelbases (2,500 mm to 4,750 mm), three engines (130 to 175 hp) and three cab variants, Comfort and Double Cab available. The standard cab is 1.70 meters wide, the other two versions are two meters wide. The option of designing the standard cab as right-hand drive is new, but the wheelbase variant with 3,400 millimeters is also new. Equipped with a new exhaust system, all diesel drives now comply with the Euro VI - Step E emissions standard.

Modernized design

The new Canter is characterized by a new and more flat front. The area below the window and above the grille now appear as black areas. The radiator grille itself has a honeycomb structure. There are also newly designed headlights - optionally with LED technology - and a new front guard with smaller fog lights. Improved insulation reduces the level of interior noise, and the enlarged windscreen improves visibility.

More safety for a surcharge

The option list for the new Fuso Canter now also includes a turning assistant, which uses radar sensors to warn the driver of moving objects and stationary obstacles on the passenger side. Other safety features include an ESP emergency braking system and a lane departure warning. Reinforced underride protection helps against the consequences of rear-end collisions.

Production of the new Fuso Canter for the European market will start in December 2021 at the Fuso European plant in Tramagal, Portugal. It can be ordered from now on. The first models will be delivered from the first quarter of 2022.

Conclusion

With the new Fuso Canter, Daimler is launching a modernized light truck on the European market. It should score especially with its new cabin and the turning assistant, which unfortunately has to be paid for.
